Advanced antioxidant technology for recycled PE, PP and PET applications

Antioxidant masterbatches for recycled polyolefin and rpetAntioxidant masterbatches have long been used to help reduce thermal degradation but a more robust solution is required to provide long term stability when using recycled content.  Ampacet developed ThermProtect, a new range of antioxidant masterbatches for recycled polyolefin and rPET to counteract the adverse effect of contaminants in recycled resins. ThermProtect helps producers improve aesthetics and processing, as well as extend the life of polymers to promote the circular economy.

High performance phenolic antioxidants provide thermal stability at high temperatures and reduce gel formation in recycled PP and PE. High performance phosphite antioxidants perform better at higher temperatures over multiple heat histories and will not plate.  These high- performance components also reduce yellowing when used with recycled PET.

Newer antioxidant technology for rPE and rPP involves the use of proprietary antioxidant additives that immediately stop oxidation and deactivate the degrading effects of inks and other contaminants in PIR and PCR.

Ampacet’s ThermProtect range of antioxidant masterbatches for recycled PE, PP and PET

  • ThermProtect 1001265-N​ contains high performance phenolic and phosphite antioxidants plus a proprietary additive for recycled polyolefins used primarily for film applications.
  • ThermProtect 1001145-N contains high performance phenolic and phosphite antioxidants plus proprietary additives for recycled polyolefins; meets FDA requirements.
  • ThermProtect 700121-E contains high performance phenolic and phosphite antioxidants to reduce yellowing in recycled PET and is used primarily for injection stretch blow molding (ISBM), injection and extrusion thermoforming processes.
  • ThermProtect 700119-E contains high performance phenolic and phosphite antioxidants, plus a blue toner for even more reduction of yellowing in recycled PET.
