In industrial environments, electrostatic discharge events (ESD) can cause severe problems with expensive consequences, especially when dealing with electronic components or circuits. Excessive heat can be released during an ESD event, melting or vaporizing the tiny parts in electrical circuits, causing devices to fail or malfunction.
